        The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Government Scheme (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India) launched in the year 1969 in universities having 40,000 volunteers. Now, the wings of NSS spread over 657 Universities and +2 councils having the volunteers strength of 7.4 crore.

Adikavi Nannaya University has been started its NSS activities from the year 2012 through the units existing in its affiliating colleges.

NSS cell has achieved number of awards and achievements at National level. Number of volunteers participated in National integration camps, Youth festivals, Republic Day parade and National Adventure camps from 2012 onwards.

Aim of NSS: Development the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service.

Benefits of Being a NSS Volunteer:
A NSS volunteer (i.e., either from +2 college/Degree college/University) who takes part in the community service programme, being an active member would get the exposure and experience to be the following:

  • an accomplished social leader
  • an efficient administrator
  • a person who understands human nature
Objectives of NSS:
NSS aims at developing the following qualities/ competencies among the volunteers:
  • a. To understand the community in which the NSS volunteers work and to understand themselves in relation to their community;
  • b. To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve themselves in problem-solving exercise;
  • c. To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility; d) To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems;
  • d. To gain skills in mobilizing community participation;
  • e. To acquire leadership qualities and democratic values;
  • f. To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters; and
  • g. To practice national integration and social harmony.
NSS attempts to establish meaningful linkages between ‘Campus and Community’, ‘College and Village’ and ‘Knowledge and Action’.
The NSS Badge Proud to Serve the Nation:
  • All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping needy.
  • The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours.
  • Red colour in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.
  • The Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind
